New Design – The Backsplash Bracelet and Earrings

Hello, darling beaders!

I am so happy to introduce my newest design – the Backsplash Bracelet!

So, I was puttering around my bead room and noticed the pile of Tango bead tubes that have been sitting in the “new-shapes-that-have-stumped-me-so-far” pile and pulled them out to admire them again. I had been wanting to design something with Tango beads for SO long, but nothing I tried seemed to work out.

I arranged them in a little square and thought, “Huh. That little square would frame a silky bead perfectly. There’s no way that would work up as prettily as I image it would. The Tangos wouldn’t fit.”

Well, my friends, the Tangos fit! I am so in love with this design. I love the geometric tile look and how many different styles you can achieve just by switching up the colors and finishes you use.

I did discover that it is important to use Miyuki seed beads for the little seed bead frames. Non-Japanese seed beads are not uniform enough and Toho 11/0’s are actually slightly bigger than Miyuki 11/0’s and tend to make things jumbled (as I grumbled about in this post).

I have also had several people ask me about where they can find the beads for this pattern, since lots of brick-and-mortar places don’t have all the bajillion two-hole beads that have been coming out lately. If you’re in the Cincinnati area, I know that Beaded Bliss has them and the Bead Stash will be carrying them soon for my Dayton babes. For my non-Ohio friends, I recommend the online bead shop (where I work) Beads Direct USA.

For you locals, I will be teaching this pattern at the Bead Stash on May 22nd, so clear your calendars! And don’t despair if you can’t make it to Dayton, the pattern is already available on my etsy shop.

I hope you guys enjoy this design as much as I have. I already have about five more color combos picked out. I am so excited. Happy Beading!

Nice did design! I might have to order the pattern. I have never spent that much on a pattern, and don’t want to start a trend, but this one is kind of compelling in its simplicity.

  3. Beautiful bracelets, Sam! I also like geometric shape designs, and this one you made is adorable. I never tried the tango beads, but now I’ll buy some to make this bracelet. My favorite is the black/grey one (as they’re my favorite colors), but I can’t stop looking at the beige/coral one. It’s a really catch eyeing.

I didn’t have a problem just using some 11/0 seed beads I had. Made mine with white tango, turquoise Silky beads and copper lined seed beads.
    Love the look of it.
