2016: Pantone, What are You Doing?

Last year, I fell absolutely in love with the Pantone Color of the Year – Marsala.

I mean, come on. Is that not GORGEOUS? I want it in a lipstick and nail polish and possibly all of my clothes. I love it.

So, I was really excited to see what Pantone came up with for 2016 and was horrified to see this nonsense.

A gradient of my two least favorite colors ever. *sigh*

Why, Pantone. WHY?

Like, a pink that cool is going to look bad on 90% of skin tones and that weird blue is impossible to work with. I mean, it’s just baby pink and baby blue. Anything made in these colors is just going to scream baby shower.

Supposedly, Pantone says that this blend “challenges traditional perceptions of color association” and celebrates the “gender blur as it relates to fashion”. And, like, I am all for gender blur and androgyny and progessive gender politics. I think destroying gender norms in fashion is awesome, but who decided to represent this change by picking the two colors that most represent the gender binary???

Ugh. I could rant about that alone for multiple blog posts, but I digress.

I must say, I do like a bunch of other colors in the Pantone 2016 Spring Report.

Honestly, I really like every single color in this palette besides Pink Quartz and Serenity.

The Iced Coffee, Buttercup, Lilac Gray, and Peach Echo are definitely right up my alley.

Fiesta and Green Flash and the two blues aren’t my go-to colors, but are challenging and still pretty.

Of course, the Pantone color choices literally do not matter for any reason. But it is fun to gawk at them and compare your reactions to your friends.

So, what do you guys think? Am I completely wrong about the weird color blend monstrosity that is Rose Quartz and Serenity?
